Current positions

  • Unprecedented times for science call for policy engagement that not only builds on effective strategies, but also explores new, creative avenues.

    I believe that science for policy and policy for science are deeply intertwined—by communicating research findings honestly, thoughtfully, and frequently, scientists can illustrate to lawmakers the value of public funding for research.

    As an officer of the Section, I’d like to expand programming on engagement with state and local policymakers, which are often closest to environmental decision-making. I’m also passionate about good governance, decisive leadership, and listening to members’ ideas to determine the direction of the Section.

Past positions

    • Representative for Dept. of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology

    • Provided critical feedback on legislation and thoughtful questions to applicants for executive positions

    • Voted on expenditures, bills, resolutions

    • Worked with department leadership and graduate student leaders to initiate task forces and solve department-level challenges

  • As GSA Chair, my goal was to exercise decisive and strategic leadership, focusing on four priorities:

    1. Ensure that both academic-year and summer funding for grad students is preserved, and guaranteed to the maximum extent possible, in spite of uncertainty in federal funding.

    2. Communicate feedback with faculty on topics including, but not limited to, graduate course availability and TA/RA expectations.

    3. Run GSA efficiently as an organization to maximize impact per member time spent.

    4. Empower GSA members to advocate and develop specific recommendations for positive departmental change through Task Forces.
